Ted Rogers Dead At 75

Posted on: December 2, 2008

Check out more details here, but to sum up, Ted Rogers died today.  As much as people apparently despise Rogers as a company, you cannot deny that he did a really great job in building up a company and putting it on the worldwide map.

In other news, there’s a new version of uTorrent causing controversy with Canadian ISPs.  Apparently, uTorrent is getting around internet throttling by using alternative technology and the ISPs don’t like it.  They’re claiming that uTorrent is effectively “declaring war” on those who use VoIP or play online games, as downloading will likely disrupt those services.

I don’t really know much about the technologies involved in this debate, but I do know that it is unlikely that any bittorrent related software is going to be “declaring war” on anybody.  That pretty much goes against the spirit of that particular technology (sharing, etc.).  Personally, I think I could live with speed throttling; sure, downloading something like an album in less than 5 minutes is handy, but not really necessary (and you can do that anyway if you bought it from iTunes).

I don’t know about you, but I think sometimes there’s something to be said about not always having instant gratification.
