CHDK

Posted on: December 15, 2008

CHDK is, in short, awesome.  To explain a little further, it is a firmware add-on that works with most Canon cameras and adds a boatload of features that really bring out the power in your Powershot.

Sorry for the terrible half-pun, but it really does give your camera some added power.  I just installed the thing last night; I haven’t had the chance to play with it extensively (such as adding scripts, etc.) but I really look forward to playing around with motion detection and setting it up for time-lapse photos.

Here is a sample page of what can be done with the CHDK: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Samples:_High-Speed_Shutter_%26_Flash-Sync

It’s a very powerful piece of work, and the best part is that it is non-destructive; in other words, because it loads onto your memory card, if you delete the CHDK files, your camera will work as it did out of the box!
